Where to Start?
So you want to learn machine learning or even develop an Artificial Intelligence system? Good choice, however, how to understand where to start, which technologies or programming languages to learn?
There is a ton of documentation out there in the open world wide web, most of them contain complex algorithms like Deep Learning, Random Forest or even Reinforcement Learning. You get scared after the first sight and think AI is a Sci-Fi reality which is beyond your reach.
Well, I have good news for you, if you are a programmer and you want to get it done, you will always make it.
Fortunately, there is a system of techniques and tools that will help you do a fresh start on your AI path, and they are all united in a platform called Anaconda – as the community calls it “The Most Popular Python Data Science Platform.“ Today, I am starting a completely new set of tutorials which will give you a pretty decent understanding of what is Machine Learning, AI and Data Science and how do we eat it.
In this tutorial, I am going to walk you through the baby steps in your journey to become an AI specialist. So buckle your seatbelt Dorothy, ’cause Kansas is going bye-bye …
Let’s get started. Head on https://www.anaconda.com/download/#macos and choose a 64-bit command line installer with Python 3.6 and your OS version.
Open terminal application after you have downloaded the command line installer, and drag and drop the file to the terminal to have it executed, then type:
You should see an output like in the image below:
Save your time and press enter by accepting the default installation location, in case you are prompted with a question “yes” or “no” just type yes and hit “enter” until you scroll a huge list of terms and agreements. If everything goes right you will see an output like in the image below:
Wait a bit, depending on your connection full installation will last about 3-4 minutes.
Anaconda is a complex set of packages and distributions that has just been installed on your machine so you better make sure all runs as it should before you dive into the world of machine learning. Open terminal and type:
If Anaconda is installed and working, this will display a list of installed packages and their versions like in the image below:
Then you have to make sure the correct version of python is installed and ready to work.
If all good you should see an output like in the image below:
Next step is to make sure Graphical interface for Anaconda Navigator is working.
In terminal window type:
If Navigator is installed correctly a GUI for Anaconda should open and you should see your new nice and shining environment which will help you grow as an AI specialist.
In the next tutorials, we are going to learn each particular element in Anaconda and get started with initial usage.
P.S if you experience problems during the installation process, please leave comments below, will be happy to answer all relevant questions.
